A man was Tasered and detained by police and taken to hospital after a standoff at a house which lasted through the night.

Durham Constabulary and other emergency services were called to Thomas Street, a terrace which runs between Holmhill Lane and Crawlaw Road in Easington Colliery, at 9.10pm yesterday, Monday, April 6.

They were alerted to a house in after concerns for the welfare of a man, with a number of police vehicles seen parked up on Holmhill Lane as the incident unfolded, with lengthy negotiations carried out with the resident.
